Putting the word “healthy” in the same sentence as “vegan pregnancy” can sometimes cause quite a stir. Especially since the stories about babies born to vegan mothers which make the news are rarely positive ones.
But as a registered dietitian, I can assure you that a vegan diet, when done right, can be absolutely appropriate for all life stages. Including pregnancy.
And several dietetics organizations agree. It’s just a matter of knowing what you’re doing (1, 2).
