Requests for a vegan meal planner make up over half of the total nutrition queries that I receive. So many are surprised when I tell them that I’m not a big fan of meal plans — or at least not of most of the meal plans currently being shared on the internet.

When done right, meal planning can help you save time, money, and eat a variety of nutritious meals without losing your sanity. 

Unfortunately, many meal plans are unbalanced and designed in a way that makes them unsustainable on the long-term. And even worse, a proportion of them make it particularly difficult to develop or maintain a positive relationship with food.

The Problem with Clean Eating – A Dietitian’s Perspective

As a registered dietitian, I want to address a topic that’s been bothering me for some time already, both within and outside of the vegan community.

That’s how we view our diet and the labels we use for the foods we choose to eat or not eat. 

I find the use of words such as “clean eating” or “cheat meals” especially troubling. Unfortunately, they are very prevalent, from the youtube videos I watch to the locker room chats I overhear in the CrossFit box I train in.

How to stop eating when not hungry

Do you ever find it difficult to stop eating when you’re not hungry?

For instance, by catching yourself eating more of a particular food than you’d originally intended to? Or mindlessly reaching for the refrigerator door in search of something to munch on?

This happens to the best of us, and yes, even to registered dietitians.

I, for one, know I’m way more likely to eat when I’m not hungry when I don’t get enough sleep. Since I’m currently caring for a little one under one, this challenge is a daily one!
